Volunteering opportunities
Groups
Hey there, Nork residents! If you’re looking to give back to our community, you’ve come to the right place. Volunteering in Nork is a fantastic way to meet new friends, learn new skills, and make a real difference in the lives of those around you. From helping out at local events to supporting our parks and schools, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Whether you have just a few hours to spare or want to commit to something long-term, we’ve got options for everyone. So roll up your sleeves and join us in making Nork an even better place to live!
Here are some of the possible volunteering opportunities:
COMMUNITY SPEEDWATCH
Speeding is an issue that residents regularly complain about, and with good reason. If a vehicle travelling at 30 mph hits a pedestrian, there is a 20% chance the pedestrian will be killed. At 40 mph, this probability rises to 90% (source: https://www.roadwise.co.uk/using-the-road/speeding/the-chance-of-a-pedestrian-surviving/ ).
Community Speedwatch (CSW) is a national initiative which involves proactive members of local communities working with the support and supervision of their local police to record details of speeding vehicles using hand-held radar devices.
The Tadworth, Nork and Burgh Heath CSW group was established in 2024 and welcomes new members.
Commitment required

Skills and experience
All the volunteers must be over 18 years old. Training is provided.

LITTER PICKING
Litter is an unfortunate fact of life and comes from many sources. Help Keep Nork Nice by joining others in removing litter from our streets and green spaces. Have a nice walk and do some good in the community at the same time. It's surprisingly enjoyable and often described by litter pickers as "relaxing" or even "mindful". Go on, give it a try. You know you want to :-)
Commitment required
Flexible. Spend as much or as little time as you want to. Cover any area of the neighbourhood that matters to you. Work alone or with others in the group.
Skills and experience
No special skills or experience required.
